iPads – Redefining Telemedicine in Covid-19 Treatment

A recent article in Wired Magazine describes how iPads are being used in new ways to support health care workers and their patients as they battle Covid-19. iPads Are Crucial Health Care Tools in Combating Covid-19 describes how iPads are making it safer to treat infected patients, reduce the need for PPE (personal protective equipment) and offer support for patients and their families.

Bedside iPads in patient rooms are allowing nurses to check on and communicate with patients without “suiting up” for each room visit. This saves masks, gloves, and other protective gear while simultaneously reducing the risk of nurses’ exposure to the virus. Apple tablets are also providing access to interpreters for non-native English-speaking patients, to better communicate with other medical personnel as well as family members.
