Apple iPad Went on Sale Two Years Ago Today – Were You Waiting? In Line?

Apple’s tablet computer, the original iPad, went on sale two years ago today. Saturday, April 3rd, 2010. Back then, you could preorder for delivery or wait in line at an Apple store. I preordered my first iPad, hoping it would arrive on Saturday. I say hoping, because at the time we lived off the beaten path. Did I get my first iPad that day? Here’s the answer:

That’s me and Mr. Yancey from UPS. One of the first email messages I sent from my iPad went to him, with a copy of the picture. He told me as far as he knew, mine was the only iPad he’d deliver that day. (When I said “off the beaten path” I meant way off.) How about you? Were you anxiously awaiting delivery? Standing on line at an Apple store?

I received mine promptly on Saturday April 3rd. It was pre-ordered by my children and grandchildren as a gift for me in honor of a ‘special birthday’ Loved it from the beginning!
Though I now have the new iPad, I will always keep this original. Who knows? Perhaps my great-grandchildren will recognize it is as a real antique by then!!

I actually didn’t care at all that it was coming out. I thought it was a silly contraption – a giant iPhone that couldn’t make calls. I openly mocked those who bought one.

Now, two years later, they’ve revolutionized my classroom and I couldn’t live without them. Eat my words? Gladly :).

Always a treat when a fellow ADE drops by the blog. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jennie!
