How to Find the Model Number of Your iPad: Get More Info on iPad Models

A student in my Master Class recently asked how to find the iOS version (operating system) and the model number of an iPad. Here’s how to look for and look up more information about your iPad.

Finding the iPad iOS version
Go to Settings > General > About > look for Version about half way down the list

Finding the iPad model number
Below the version should be the model number (which is really Apple’s order number)
Example: MC706LL/A
Check the number here http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
Follow the links in the lookup result to learn more about that iPad model.

You can also find the model number on the back of the iPad near the bottom. The font is tiny and hard to read. Look at the end of the first line. You’ll see the letter A followed by four digits (Axxxx).
Check the model number here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5452
You can select any model in this table to get more information.
